Department of Interior Architecture
Interior Architecture is the art of designing an indoor or outdoor place using furniture, colour, fabric, material, and appropriate equipment. Interior Architect, within the structural integrity of architecture, designs and creates convenient and special places where people can feel good and comfortable, and form a healthy interaction with each other. S/he, while designing and creating the place, integrates spatial properties and technical knowledge, and considers multiple factors such as function, technic and art, individual, society, behavioural models, structure, capacity, material, colour, configuration, time, economy, ergonomy, physiology, psychology.
Within the scope of Interior Architecture, researches and studies are done in fields including constructed environment, architectural history, fine arts and art history, construction techniques and manufacture methods. Designs and applications are practised through making use of contemporary theories and designing approaches, scientific and technical developments and creativity. Technical and artistic aspects of designing are studied and put into practice.
Department of Interior Architecture aims to educate Interior Architects who have the competence to observe, examine, create and make changes; can analyse and creatively interpret the interaction formed between the place and people; can actualize his/her different ideas technically and economically; can produce and develop promt and pratic design solutions in interior arhitecture application areas by using his/her theoretical and technical knowledge and experience. The Interior Architecture education requires the students to be able to express their ideas through visual expression, to think critically, and to interact coordinately with artistic and stylistic studies and other disciplines related to interior architecture. The students are required to be environmentally-conscious, creative, analytical, and eager to do studies in fine arts, social sciences and other related disciplines.
After the four-years undergraduate education, students graduate as “Interior Architect”. An Interior Architect can work freelance or in design offices; in positions related to the processes of production, application and supervision of materials; in factories and in ateliers. In addition, they also have employment opportunities in furniture design and restoration sectors.
